I don't remember the details. Vanelope was one of my favorite characters too though I thought a bit too much of the film was spent in the Sugar Rush setting.michael z. newmanhttp://zigzigger.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37916241.post-45286264777993711382012-11-14T11:40:45.944-06:002012-11-14T11:40:45.944-06:00Fun post! Normally I would not take an (almost) 3yo to a movie like this but I find it hard to leave him out of fun outings like this and he really really likes going out to the movies. Afterwards, though, it was really interesting to see how both of my children reacted. For my 3yo, the movie boiled down to "funny!" "scary!" and "candy!" and also the fact that one guy yelled "I can fix it!" while the other yelled "I'm gonna wreck it!" My 6yo, though, engaged with the film in a very different way. The entire car ride home was devoted to unpacking the logistics of the film--how Venelope became a "glitch," how King Candy was [SPOILER ALERT!] bnother character in disguise, what "code" is (she was excited to relate this to her Dad's job--that of a software programmer), and the difference between being a "bad" guy and a "bad guy."<br /><br />Like you, I spent most of the film delighting in its references to old school video games and the inventive staging of scenes within and outside of the game machines. It's like the 3 of us each saw a different film.amandahttp://judgmentalobserver.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37916241.post-77413082383209537722012-11-13T16:53:54.946-06:002012-11-13T16:53:54.946-06:00Hey Melody - I was trying to write descriptively a...Hey Melody - I was trying to write descriptively and maybe subconsciously to represent the kids' way of talking. That wasn't a conscious intention. But thanks!michael z. newmanhttp://zigzigger.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37916241.post-67945713567461855402012-11-13T16:48:27.543-06:002012-11-13T16:48:27.543-06:00Was your use of a more direct, simple writing voic...Was your use of a more direct, simple writing voice intentional to sync up with Leo et al's approach to language? It is the thing I noticed most. Also, very unique and intriguing assignment. I am sure the students will enjoy doing it.melodyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02942957517013848687noreply@blogger.com
